present-day hunters and gates 2 membresCréé par Worldtable
Fourteen years ago a gate opened in the sky over Hamyeol harbour, and monsters came through it. Now gates open somewhere in the city every week: in a subway tunnel, a school gym, a parking garage, a rice field. Each shows its rank and counts down to a break; clear it, or what is inside comes out. Hunters, the few people who awakened with power, are scanned once by the Hunter Association and keep that rank, D to S, for life. Guilds run like corporations, raid teams stream their clears, and the monster cores the gates leave behind power the city. A few people hear a voice nobody else hears and see a window only they can read. You are one of them. You have the System, and it lets you level past the rank the world gave you.
Là où tout a commencé
the First Gate
Fourteen years ago, on a clear spring morning, a gate opened in the sky over Hamyeol harbour at Sacheokpo: a ring of black light four hundred metres across. What came through it killed eleven thousand people in two days, and guns barely slowed it. On the second day the first hunters awakened, ordinary people who found they could tear a monster apart, and the harbour was held. The First Gate never closed. It still hangs over the harbour, ringed by a checkpoint, and nobody has reached its end. Within a year gates were opening all over the city, and Hamyeol learned to live with them.
Les terres
Hamyeol
the Old City
the historic centre on the river's north bank: City Hall, the Hunter Association headquarters, the old palace walls, markets, alleys and apartment blocks
The Hunter Association's headquarters stands across the square from City Hall, and its director has not been seen in a year.
Gwangseon
the Towers
the business district south of the river: guild towers with stock tickers in their lobbies, the Core Exchange, broadcast studios and money
Every guild tower in Gwangseon has a stock ticker in its lobby, and this month two of them are trying to swallow each other.
Sacheokpo
the Harbour
the harbour at the river mouth, under the First Gate: the checkpoint, the container port, fish markets and shipyards
The First Gate still hangs over Sacheokpo harbour, a black ring of light in the sky, and the checkpoint under it has never closed in fourteen years.
Yeomcheon
the River Wards
the old working wards along the river: cheap flats, workshops, gate clinics, bone smiths, and the low-rank crews who clear the gates nobody else wants
In Yeomcheon's river wards, low-rank crews clear the D-rank gates nobody else will take, for the Association's clear bounty and whatever the cores bring.
Seongwoljin
the Night District
bars, karaoke rooms, love hotels, arcades and old industrial lots east of the centre, and under them, gates nobody registered
Seongwoljin is bars and karaoke rooms above ground, and under it, in basements and old freight tunnels, gates nobody registered, run by people who charge at the door.
Nongaksan
the Outskirts
the farm towns, greenhouses, new apartment towns and hills on the city's southern edge, where gates open in fields and stay open
Out in Nongaksan gates open in rice fields and orchards, and some have stood open for years because nobody comes to clear them.
Qui tu peux être
Human
The people of Hamyeol: twelve million of them, commuters, students, shopkeepers, office workers, grandparents in the markets, kids with hunter cards. About one in a few hundred has awakened as a hunter and been scanned and ranked. A very few, nobody knows how many, hear the System. Present-day clothes, phones in every hand, and a gate alert on the lock screen most weeks.
