Question 1

Is the battle map generator free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with no sign-up and no limit. Make as many maps as you like and download them as PNG or Universal VTT files.

Question 2

What grid size does it use?

Accepted Answer

Five-foot squares, the standard for D&D and most fantasy tabletop games. The tabletop PNG is 70 pixels a square, which Roll20, Foundry and Owlbear Rodeo all expect; the print size is 140 pixels a square. Turn the grid off if your tabletop draws its own.

Question 3

How do I use the Universal VTT file?

Accepted Answer

The .dd2vtt file holds the map image plus its walls, doors and lights. In Foundry VTT, install the Universal Battlemap Importer module and import the file: the buildings block sight, the doors open and the lamps are lit. Arkenforge, EncounterPlus and other tabletops read it too.

Question 4

Where do the maps come from?

Accepted Answer

Each one is cut from a whole town drawn by Worldtable's town generator. The streets, houses, walls, river and squares around your fight are part of a real town plan, so the alley leads somewhere and the gate stands in the town wall. Open the whole town to see who lives in every building.

Question 5

Can I use the maps in my campaign, stream or published adventure?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use the maps however you like, including in published work.
