Worldtable vs Voyage

Both let you build a world in a studio, play it alone or with friends, and have an AI narrate while an engine keeps score. Worldtable is fantasy only, built around a map you travel day by day and rules you set in plain words. Voyage covers every genre and comes from the team behind AI Dungeon.

The short version

  • Worldtable is a place to build a fantasy world and let people play in it. The World Studio drafts a world from six questions, then generates a map from the land you shape. An AI voices everyone in it, and the engine keeps the map, travel, fights, money and memories. A world runs on its builder's own AI key, and players never pay.
  • Voyage is Latitude's AI RPG platform. Creators build worlds in Voyage Studio (characters, lore, quests, rules, maps, locations), and Latitude describes its World Engine as a deterministic system for world state, character memory and rule enforcement. It has worlds across genres, co-op for up to 8 players, a seat for a human game master, and apps for phone, tablet and Mac. Players buy memberships or credits.
  • Pick Worldtable if you want a fantasy world with real distances, rules you write in words, and a bill the builder controls. Pick Voyage for any genre, community worlds and mods, and a human DM seat.

Where Worldtable is different

  • The land comes first. Pick one of fourteen shapes or draw your own coastline, and the generator raises the terrain, runs the rivers, lays the roads and founds the towns. It isn't a picture. The storyteller can only send players to places that are really on it.
  • Getting there takes time. A party on foot covers about 32 km a day on open ground; ships sail about 96 km a day. The clock runs while you travel, and when a day turns over, word of your deeds may have spread.
  • Rules in words, kept in code. Turn death off and the tool that kills a hero downs them instead. Cap companions at two and a third one won't follow, however well the story is told. The docs mark, for every mechanic, whether the engine enforces it or the storyteller is only told.
  • Ask your world before anyone plays. Ask the storyteller a question and it answers from your canon, and says how much of the answer your canon actually settles. Check the whole world for contradictions and loose ends.
  • The builder holds the bill. A world runs on its builder's own key at the provider's prices, on whichever model they choose, or on a model running on the builder's own computer. Players need an account and an invite, nothing more.

See the whole Studio on the World Studio page, or read every rule a builder can set.

Where Voyage is the better pick

  • Any genre. Voyage has worlds across genres, each with its own narrator style and difficulty. Worldtable only does fantasy.
  • A human behind the screen. In Voyage a friend can take the DM seat, control the world's characters and direct scenes while the AI narrates. Worldtable has no seat for a live human game master.
  • A big community to start from. Published worlds, mods and scenarios from Voyage's creators, plus public servers to drop into.
  • Native apps and presentation. iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac apps, a full-screen visual novel mode, character voices, item artwork and music. Worldtable is a web app you can add to your home screen.
  • No API key to manage. A membership covers it. On Worldtable, a builder brings their own key or their own model once the starter credit runs out.

Questions

Is Worldtable a Voyage alternative?
Yes, if you want to build a fantasy world and have people play in it. Both pair an AI narrator with an engine that keeps track of what's true. Worldtable is fantasy only, and built around a map generated from the land you shape, which players travel kilometre by kilometre while the days pass.
How is Voyage different from AI Dungeon?
Both are made by Latitude. On its own pricing page, Voyage describes AI Dungeon as more of a story you craft, and Voyage as an RPG adventure you go on, with worlds you can build, share and play with others. We compare Worldtable with AI Dungeon on a separate page.
Is Worldtable free?
Building is free, and your first $1 of AI is covered. After that a world runs on its builder's own AI key (OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible provider), paid to the provider directly, or on a model the builder runs on their own computer. There's no subscription, and players never pay.
Can a person be the game master, like Voyage's DM seat?
Not during play. In Worldtable the AI storyteller runs every scene, inside the map, rules and cast the builder set in the World Studio. If you want to sit behind the screen yourself and direct the story live, Voyage offers that.
Does Worldtable do other genres?
No. Worldtable is built for fantasy worlds: maps, kingdoms, magic, roads and ports. Voyage has worlds across genres, so for science fiction or a modern setting it's the better fit.
Can I choose the AI model?
In Worldtable the builder chooses. A world can run on any model available on OpenRouter, or on any provider that speaks OpenAI's chat API, using the builder's own key. That includes a model on your own computer: run it with something like Ollama, LM Studio or KoboldCpp, put it behind a tunnel such as Cloudflare Tunnel or ngrok, and paste the https address into the world's AI settings. In Voyage you pick from the models it offers, and pricier ones use more of a plan's usage per turn.
