Fantasy World Generator

Write one line about your world. Shape its land, choose how its names sound, and get a real map, five regions, its peoples and magic, the factions pulling it apart, a villain with a plan and three places a story could start. Then build it out and play it, with an AI game master running it.

What you get

  • A map you can explore. Coastlines, mountains, rivers, roads and towns, with your regions' borders and every place named in the style you picked.
  • A world with a story already moving. Its name, what's at stake right now, and the event that made it what it is.
  • Five regions, each with a character of its own and some trouble waiting for whoever goes there.
  • Its peoples and its magic, and what that magic costs.
  • Factions and a villain who want things and are already acting on them.
  • Three adventure hooks a new hero could walk straight into.
  • Yours to keep: save it as a PDF, copy it as text, or download the map.

The map isn't a picture

It comes from the world generator Worldtable's games run on, and it runs right in your browser. Pick one of fourteen shapes of land and it raises the terrain, runs the rivers downhill, lays roads between the towns and names them all in one of twenty-three naming styles, from Old English shires to desert caravan towns. The same choices always draw the same land, so when you keep building, the World Studio opens on the map you saw here.

From a sketch to a world people play in

A sketch is the first page. In the World Studio it becomes a whole world: a cast of rulers and villains with secrets, peoples with real limits on how strong they can grow, lore and money, towns you can walk into, and rules you set in plain words, like whether heroes die for good. Invite your players and they type what their characters do. An AI plays every innkeeper, bandit and rival, while the game engine keeps the map, the fights and the money honest.

Questions

Is the world generator free?
Yes, with no sign-up. Each visitor can make one world a day, because every world is written fresh by an AI and that costs us a little each time.
Is the map made by AI?
No. The map comes from the same generator the World Studio uses: it raises the terrain for the shape of land you picked, runs the rivers, lays the roads and founds the towns, and names everything in the style you chose. The AI writes the words: the world's name, its history, regions, peoples, magic, factions, villain and story hooks.
Can I use it for D&D or another tabletop campaign?
Yes. Copy the sketch as text and drop it into your notes. It's a starting point for any game.
What happens when I keep building?
You sign in, name the world, and the World Studio builds it out on the same map: a cast of rulers and rivals, peoples and how strong they can grow, magic, lore and money. You can edit all of it, set the rules in plain words, and invite players. An AI game master runs the world while the game engine decides fights, travel and money. Building is free, and your first $1 of AI is covered.
Why only one world a day?
So the generator stays free for everyone. If you want more, the World Studio can draft as many worlds as you like on your own AI key.
