Dragon Name Generator
Names for dragons, dragonborn and anything with scales and a long memory. The Draconic style is learned from invented dragon and serpent names: hissing s and sh, rolled r, x and z, and the occasional apostrophe. Some come as a single great name, some with a second name or title.
Draconic: hissing and ancient.
What makes a name sound draconic
Dragon names should sound old and slightly hard to say in a human mouth. Sibilants (s, sh, ss) give the hiss; x, z and th give the weight. A single name of two or three syllables is the classic form, like Skazash or Maldrar. Two-part names suit dragonborn, who live among other peoples and need a family name.
Most dragons in fiction have a true name and an epithet the world uses. Take a name from here as the true name and give it one people use out loud: the Ash Queen, the Thing Under Hollows.
Dragons in a world
A dragon's name tends to spread to its lair and the land around it. Use the Towns or Kingdoms kind in the same style to name the mountain it sleeps in or the province it burned, and the dragon will feel like part of the map rather than a monster on it.
Names are the start
Make the whole world: a map, its peoples, its magic and a villain with a plan. The free world generator names its towns and regions with this same engine, in the style you choose.
In the World Studio you build a world on a real map, set its rules in plain words and invite players. An AI game master voices every character while the game engine keeps the map, the fights and the money honest.

Questions
- Can I use these for dragonborn characters?
- Yes. The two-part names work well for dragonborn and other draconic peoples; the single names suit dragons themselves.
- Why do some names have apostrophes?
- The draconic style is learned from names that use them to mark a break between syllables, so now and then a name keeps one. Drop it if you prefer.
- Can I name a dragon's lair?
- Yes. Switch the kind to Towns for lairs and strongholds or Kingdoms for a dragon's domain. The style stays Draconic.
