Orc Name Generator

Orc and goblin names for warlords, raiders and the odd reasonable orc. The Orcish style is learned from invented orc and goblin words: guttural, clipped and full of g, r, z and k. Switch the kind to Towns for warcamps and strongholds.

Naming

What makes a name sound orcish

Orc names work when they're short and blunt. One or two syllables, hard stops, doubled consonants, and gh or zz where another language would use a vowel. Goblin names in the same style tend to come out smaller and sharper: Gnok, Dhez, Bukex.

An orc's second name in most fiction is a clan or a boast rather than a family. Use the second word here as a clan, or swap it for something the orc earned: Rudzal Skullsplitter.

Orcs worth remembering

A party fights a lot of orcs. Name the ones who matter, a chieftain, a shaman, the one who surrendered, and the players will start to see a people instead of a crowd. Give a whole warband names from one batch so they sound like they grew up together.

Names are the start

Make the whole world: a map, its peoples, its magic and a villain with a plan. The free world generator names its towns and regions with this same engine, in the style you choose.

In the World Studio you build a world on a real map, set its rules in plain words and invite players. An AI game master voices every character while the game engine keeps the map, the fights and the money honest.

Questions

Does this make goblin names too?
Yes. The Orcish style is learned from both orc and goblin names, so you'll get both kinds of sound. The shorter, sharper ones suit goblins.
Can I use these for D&D or Warhammer-style orcs?
Yes. The names are generated, not taken from any game, so they fit any setting.
Can I name an orc stronghold?
Yes. Switch the kind to Towns for strongholds and warcamps, or Kingdoms for an orc nation.
