Table Talk: Talk to the GM

Step out of the story and talk to your world's Game Master: ask why something happened, get a mistake fixed, or change where the story goes. Free, and only you see it.

You can now step out of the story and talk to your world's Game Master, right in the chat. Ask why something happened, get a mistake fixed, or change where the story is heading. It's free, and only you see it.

Talking to the GM

  • Switch the box. Above the message box there's now Story and Table talk. Pick Table talk and write as yourself, not your character. You can also start a message with (( to switch.
  • It checks before it answers. The GM reads what actually happened in your scenes, your character sheet and your story threads, and shows you what it's looking at while it works.
  • Every change shows. Anything it changes appears under its reply, like Health 28 → 94 or a note it left for the storyteller.
  • Free, and private. Table talk doesn't use credits or count as a turn, and other players in the room never see it.
  • It folds away. Once the story moves on, the exchange shrinks to one line in the log. Click it to read it again.

What it can fix

  • Mistakes on your sheet. Health, items, money or a condition that the record says shouldn't be there gets put back. Something you lost with nothing in your scenes to explain it counts as a mistake.
  • How the story goes. Ask for more mystery and less fighting, a slower pace, or content kept out entirely. The GM writes it down as a standing note the storyteller follows every turn, until you ask it to stop.
  • Story threads. It can drop or pause a thread you're done with, and ask the world for a new one about something you want to chase.
  • Quests. It can drop a job you've walked away from, or tick a step the tracker missed.
  • Your last turn. Ask and it undoes it, the same as the Undo button.

It won't hand out gold, items or power just because you ask. Those are still earned in the story, and it will say so.

For world builders

The new Game Master card at the bottom of the Studio's Rules tab sets it up for your world:

  • On or off. It's on by default.
  • Its name and personality. Pick plain and warm, dry wit, old-school referee, theatrical or patient teacher, or describe your own.
  • What it can do. Answer questions only, Steer the story (the default), or Fix the character sheet too. Sheet fixes still follow your other rules, such as the biggest reward handed out at once.
  • Undo. Whether it can undo a player's last turn.
